The Light Aviation Authority require a formal modification to he completed if something material changes
A new (not used before) engine and same re Propellor means I need to complete a MOD5 form
One of the series of questions addresses changes to the weight and balance and its effect on C of G
The LAA have a handy spreadsheet that allows you to plug figures in and see if you ‘still fit the envelope’
Some of the key changes include
- New engine .. only fractionally heavier but pretty much nothing in it
- New oil tank as the Rotax runs as a dry sump..this oil is positioned further rearwads to the basic Jabiru wet sump
- The new water rad and its associated water
- The new, larger, propellor ..some 3kg heavier than the current
All these have their location measurements from the ‘datum’ ie the mainspar are measured and weight, moment and effect plugged in
